SHINY TOYS – festival for audiovisual experiments – promotes artists who use analog and digital technologies to explore and cross boundaries in sight & sound. The aim is to look at a broad field of experimental audiovisual art, to tighten the links between audiovisual art, science, history, media art and digital culture.
By crossing the universe of music, image artwork, live production, analog and digital art, SHINY TOYS is working on a layer between analog and digital technologies that – through manipulation, control and modulation of information – discovers and establishes new communication streams as well as creating alternative social contexts and connections between virtual and physical spaces. Our view of reality is now largely determined by the images that we perceive through modern means of communication. By forming the interconnection of multiple aesthetic levels (space, light, sound, image) and the use of digital and analog media technology opens up new possibilities of perception and experience of space. Tracing new modes of action and implications of audiovisual experiments in space. With that, basic issues of image perception and visual communication should be considered as well as interfaces to current application fields of media arts and technology.
Behind the walls of the former freight depot, and today’s cultural center “Bollwerk”, with the SHINY TOYS * SPACE you can expect our real-time audio-visual laboratory. Away from the daylight, we invite you to a weekend of joint experiments. We offer exciting 4 days and a lot of optical toys and equipment. The sessions ranging from VJing, mapping, Arduino, hacks to auditive explorations in a relaxed atmosphere. Let us trace new modes of action and implications of audiovisual experiments in the lab on time and provide some surprises. On the last evening we will celebrate the results of course!
In addition to scheduled lectures and workshops, reports and issues will be formulated and developed spontaneously in the course of the event. In addition to the aural and visual appropriation of spaces, debates and exchange of information are in the focus. Basic issues of image perception and visual communication should be considered as well as interfaces to current application fields of media arts and technology. By forming the interconnection of multiple aesthetic levels (light, sound, space) and the use of digital and analog media technology opens up new possibilities of perception and experience of space.
